I bet many of you thought I forgot to mention our trip to New York to visit an exceptional barber, James Nials. No, not at all, you see, the hope was to get back to him in a week or two to do a follow-up show with images of his skills. Well, we are in the process of making this happen. Until that time, I would like to share the fact that we had a wonderful time and great conversation with this ambitiously strong person. The way he began his business in itself is a testament to having a positive mindset and believing in yourself.
We will be back with more of James Nials and we will have some shots of his work to back it up. Thank you James a.k.a. Flawless for your time and wisdom. See you soon.
On our show yesterday Timmy Allen joined us to discuss his career in the music industry. Although his amazing career has taken him from being a bassist in a r&b group to becoming an industry executive,, he still has more to do. The ease at which we are able to just chat about many of his amazing accomplishments gave me a better understanding of an industry that I have limited knowledge. The wonderful part of the whole discussion what his willingness to be a mentor to his son, T-Breezy and other up and coming artist. It is very rare that someone of his caliber is willing to give back in this manner. With that in mind, if you want to contact the wonderful man here is the contact information: STVLTB6@AOL.COM.
It was an honor and a pleasure doing this interview.
We had our monthly segment with Steve Duncanson where he gave us examples and explanations to the concepts presented in the first show. When we ended the show he recommended that we read "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill. Although I gave the shoe analogy, I have to admit that being way off base was a way for me to truly understand the concepts and how to incorporate them into everyday life. Thank you Steve Duncanson.
Our next show will be September 18, 2010 at Noon. (347) 637-2319.
it has taken me some time to really think about my interview with Tricia Downing. She is an amazing woman, who was able to adjust to life's unexpected, dramatic change. For many of us we get stuck in yesterday. Yesterday's conversation, yesterday's argument, yesterday's victory, never looking at today. Tricia Downing took her "today" and made the best life possible. Reflecting on the event through her book "Cycle of Hope: From Paralysis to Possibility" is a blessing to us all. Having the strength to move forward when your world is drastically altered takes more than strength, it takes will power. The will to want to persevere no matter what the obstacles. I've learned, from her, not to rest on my obstacles, but to move from them and use them to lift me up to your next level. People are always saying, "keep your head up"; I want to keep my head forward. If I'm looking up, I can't see where I'm going.
Thank you for sharing your story and teaching a lesson.
We had the first show of one our new segments "Paradigm Shifters...Principles for Life and Success". As with all first times we learn. Steve Duncanson's wealth of knowledge is so instrumental when it comes to giving us the varied concepts that will help up move from complacency to forward movement. On this show we were given 5. On the next show we will revisit 3 of the 5 principles and see their application in our lives.
I can't wait and hope that you join us and see how they work. Thank you Steve.
On Saturday, July 10, 2010, we were grateful to have photographer Herb Way, his book collaborator Roz and two of the models (Brenda and Olga) from his self-published, soon to be released book titled "Portraits of Eve: Women of Color Share Their Body/Soul Conversations". We learned from the models the importance of knowing that your are perfect right now, as you are. There are very few words that I can find to adequately explain all the emotions that come to mind. Please visit www.portraits-of-eve.com and view the sample pages. Then you will understand what I mean.
Thank you to Mr. Way for his creativity and to all the models thank you each so much for sharing your story.
We were live in Harlem, NYC at Salon 804 and it was a total blast. LaSeena Richardson was our guest stylist. We also had Violet DaCoata of Renee Furterer join us in the discussion with her advice for dealing with the summer elements (chlorine, sun and salt). We learned, I learned and listened to learn some more. Hair is an important key to our wellbeing.
"Clean hair, clean scalp equals healthy hair." There is no science to that process. However, choosing products are important depending on your hair's condition. By condition I mean, chemically processed, natural or in dreads/locks. Each condition requires special care in order to achieve a healthy, growing shine, that moves.
We posted some photos and hope you take a moment to listen to the show on our home page.
Also, Lucy and Vioilet are available to answer any questions that you may have. Just post it on our "Contact Us" page and we will get back to you quickly.
I have to give props to my booking manager, she was out their doing her thing allowing us to get to know the stylists. Let's not forget the model. She looked fabulous when it was over.
Thank you all for sharing your expertise and time.
We had a wonderful discussion with T. Alexis Owens of Ventures Unlimited, Inc. Her business knowledge and savvy provided some of our listeners with great advice in regards to growing a successful business. Very often you meet people who are at the top of their game and refuse to look back to see if there are others who need a helping hand. Well, not Ms. Owens, she couples her experience with a spiritual component that is a winner in any arena. We are so glad that she is here for us.
Ms. Owens we thank you for the example of what we can achieve when we truly believe.
Dr. Claire Damken Brown joined us to discuss some current trends and processes happening in today's workplace. Women have become a more visible player in the corporate world, however, there are still rules to the game that we have not completely mastered. Dr. Brown gave us real-life situations and events that women, students and all workers should be aware of. Your success in the workplace depends on your ability to know what is expected of you as an employee. Thank you Dr. Brown. Oh yes, pick up her book "Code Switching...how to talk so men will listen". It has some very good, well explained details for maneuvering your rise in your career.
