Say What?

Health
Sun Safety
We are being baked by the sun early this season and we have to protect ourselves.  It's matters not what complexion you have, nor does it matter what your ethnicity happens to be; the sun is still deadly.  Protect your eyes, lips, hair, feet and skin.  Use UV protection in the from of sunglasses, sunscreen and hats.  Find out what works best for your skin type (as far as sunscreen is concerned).  Now, if you notice marks on your skin that keep getting bigger, consult with medical professional, please don't put it off.  So, while you’re out, remember to put on those trendy shades and protective head gear.  Ten years from now people will compliment you on your youthful appearance.

Safety In Numbers
Personal safety is a ever growing concern.  It is also a fact that two or more is always better than one.  However, we are not always in a position to walk in groups.  Here are a few tips you should keep in mind when you are in the position to walk alone.
  1. Be Aware of your surrounding - look around
  2. Don't walk and text , or hold the phone to your ear - ear pieces are great devices in this instance
  3. Use your six sense - if it is a dark block - don't walk it alone
  4. Keep all valuables hidden - turn your rings inward; button up your coat
  5. Keep your purse close to your body - don't walk with it dangling like a flag blowing in the wind saying "take me."
  6. Keep your car or house keys in your pocket - you will not have to fumble with your purse
  7. Once in your car or home immediately lock your door
  8. Wear shoes you know you can walk in
  9. If you have been drinking, it's best to have a designated buddy to get you home safely
There are more things that you can do to ensure your own safety.  I recommend that you know your individual situation and be careful.

Safety
Your Cell Phone
The laws banning specific cell phone use are being enforced across the country and many have changed effective 2012.  Each state has different guidelines and penalties.  It is so hard for me to understand why a person would consider texting on a cell phone while driving. Some States have made drastic changes to their laws.  As you drive, please be aware that one moment of any distraction can cost you many things that can never be replaced, a life.  Click here for the laws on record for your state.  Oh, always remember to buckle up!

Don't Eat That
GMOs
Genetically-modified organism a.k.a. GMOs.  Most commonly used to refer to crop plants created for human or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques.  The process by which this is done has the ability to provide food for our ever growing population.  But, at what cost.  You really have to watch what you are eating.  Here are some pros and cons.
Pros: pest resistant crops; herbicide tolerance; disease resistant plants; cold tolerance; drought tolerance/salinity tolerance; added nutritional value; and pharmaceutical insertion (edible vaccines).
Cons: Environmental hazards; human health risks; and economic concerns.
Join me in March, on The Cocoa Express Show live,  where we will go into more details regarding this heavily debated topic.
